If the person is Thai that you are getting married to then this will not be a bigger problem. If however the other person is not Thai and you are only going to get married in Thailand then you will need to approach their Embassy for their Letter of Affirmation. If the person in a Jordanian then will need to obtain their letter of affirmation in Jordan from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This letter needs to be certified and verified in Jordan at the Thai embassy in Jordan. This will then need to be brought to Thailand and again verified by the Foreign Affairs department in Thailand before it can be taken to the Amphur for a wedding registration.

If the person is Moroccan, then the issue of the letter of affirmation starts at home in Morocco where they will need to obtain a status letter at their own Foreign Affairs Department which will then need to be brought to the Moroccan Embassy in Thailand. The Embassy in Thailand will then issue them with a freedom to marry letter which will be taken to the Thai Foreign Affairs office to verify and certify the letter.

Malaysian nationals getting married in Thailand will also need to start the process in Malaysia. The person will need to obtain a statutory declaration from the JPN (Jabatan Pendaftaran Negera) in Malaysia. Now once you have the document, it needs to be brought to the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok where they will then issue you with a letter of “Freedom to Marry”. This will then need to be taken to the Thai Foreign Affairs Department in Thailand to be verified before it is handed in at the Amphur in Thailand for the marriage registration process.

The Islamic process of getting married needs to be done with the assistance from the Islamic Centre in Thailand if you need to have an Islamic conversion done and then start the Islamic marriage traditional process. You will then need to have this registered at the Amphurs Office like everyone else. From there you can apply for an American spouse visa. If you only did the Islamic conversion process and wish to take her back to the US then you would need to apply for a US fiancée visa.
